OnWord Skate Collective is a Chicago based organization focused on building community for non-traditional (women, transgender & gender non-conforming, and LGBTQ+) skaters. In June of 2020, OnWord constructed Chicago's first mobile, DIY skatepark- led and built by non-traditional skaters. OnWord now hosts free skate lessons and skate meetups throughout the Chicagoland area and works to increase visibility and equity in the city.OnWord is growing quickly, with over 600+ people having attended our events in under 8 months since our official launch. We have given away over $1,500 dollars worth of skate & personal supplies at our events, and have been able to support other minority-owned business during our time.
