Catherine’s career has been centered on secure payment and identity with a focus on emerging technologies and the benefits they bring to Canadians. For 26 years she served as the head of ACT Canada, the secure payment and digital identity management stakeholder association. As CEO she worked with issuers, acquirers, merchants, suppliers, other payment stakeholders, governments, regulators and privacy advocates - developing and delivering strategies to advance her members' goals. She has written over 250 articles and delivered more than 300 speeches on the subjects of payment and identity. Her most recent book is Payments: Dancing in the Dark... an insider's insights. Two more books are underway.Today she heads Chieftain Consulting and serves on the Advisory board of Quantum-Safe Canada.She chaired the International Smart Card Associations Network for thirteen years and was a founding member and past Vice-Chairman of the Canadian Payments Association (now Payments Canada) Stakeholders Advisory Council. Catherine has served on many public and private sector committees. Ms Johnston has taken a leading role in policy development discussions by national and international governments and has become a leading expert in privacy and card technologies. Government decision-makers and print and broadcast media regularly seek out Catherine as a recognized expert in the field. With the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner/Ontario, she co-authored the world’s first ‘Privacy Impact Assessment Procedure for Multi-application Smart Cards’. In 2006, she was invited to sit on the Advisory Board of CAN ID?
