The Global Engagement Lab (GEL) is a six-month international learning, organizing and community-building cohort for funders. The GEL fosters personal transformation and relationship-building in order to deepen philanthropy’s understanding of systemic change, increase our field’s ability to organize, and foster equitable partnerships in support of global social movements. Now entering its third year, each subsequent cohort joins a growing network of alum we call our “GEL Family,” who continue to support each other toward activating the principles of philanthropy for systemic change.

Relaunched annual conference as an equity-focused Global Summit, receiving 90%+ satisfaction ratings on all measured metrics by attendees; produced 9 modules of philanthropic curriculum for local affiliates to teach donors best practices and created a grant program to support affiliates piloting and customizing for local use; launched an innovative partnership with Race Forward to convene global philanthropic leaders for a racial equity focused Learning Lab, “Decolonizing SVP.”

Served as lead organizing strategist for both c3 (nonprofit) and c4 (political) efforts, managing 500k field program and digital communications to thousands of members and environmental voters. Appointed by CEO to spearhead racial equity work through strategic planning process, leading 30+ staff to create 1 year plan and building stakeholder support for commitments. Selected as first Outreach Director for the Alliance for Jobs and Clean Energy, a broad coalition of stakeholders from business, healthcare, labor and communities of color committed to pricing carbon pollution at the ballot. Ran 20+ organization Environmental Priorities Coalition legislative field efforts, including digital communications to list of 50K+ and organizing thousands to turn out for campaigns.

Elected by fellow council members to Mayor Pro Tempore in 2012 and Council President in 2014. Chaired the Transportation Committee and Lake Whatcom/Natural Resources Committees. Served on Waterfront/Downtown Development Committee, Finance & Personnel Committee, and Planning & Community Development Committee. Served as Council Liaison to Whatcom Council of Governments, NW Economic Council, Downtown Bellingham Partnership, Whatcom Museum Foundation, Bellingham Sister Cities Association, and the Bellingham School District.

Co-Founded NW Tribal PAC, a political action committee across several tribal governments in Washington state. Conducted community based marketing campaigns for grassroots public education/advocacy priorities around criminal justice issues and tribal elections. Managed Whatcom County lobbying activities building local stakeholder and government support for a statewide arts fund.

Coordinated Business-to-Business promotions throughout the region, including creating an initiative to market Washington State wineries and distributors in British Columbia. Supervised development and build out of new online database connecting Washington manufacturers with Canadian markets. Implemented an integrated communications plan in coordination with the executive team at the College of Business & Economics.
