My name is Catherine Lyp. I’ve always known I wanted to do something in art, but I never knew what. Then, one day as I was working on a project in Adobe Illustrator, I realized how much of a passion I have for Graphic Design. I’ve enjoyed learning about and using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign since high school, but because I love it so much, it hadn’t occurred to me to pursue it as a career previously. I love Graphic Design so much that I will often get distracted at stores and spend time analyzing the packaging designs of various products. I spent a few weeks during the summer of my junior year of high school at the Kansas City Art Institute’s summer program. The skills I learned during the program helped to prepare me for the subjects I would pursue in college.I graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas with a degree in Mass Communication and minors in Art and English Writing.I worked with the Ouachita Baptist University newspaper, The Signal, for three years as a staff writer. Soon after, I was asked to become the weekly cartoonist. My junior year I worked as the Arts and Entertainment and Feature pages editor. During my senior year I worked as the cartoonist for the bi-weekly edition of The Signal as well as occasional article assignments. Through my time at OBU, I learned how to write in various forms for media and news, as well as further my art skills. My classes helped me to become familiar with a variety of art mediums such as Adobe Creative Suite, Procreate, acrylic and oil painting, drawing, and ceramics.I am excited to continue learning about all aspects of Graphic Design as I begin my career. I look forward to being apart of a Graphic Design team and to begin helping clients realize their marketing potential.
