I specialise in the use of siliceous microfossils, particularly diatoms, silicoflagellates, chrysophyte cysts and ebridians to reconstruct past oceanographic conditions such as sea ice cover, oceanic circulation patterns and sea surface temperature changes. I have a keen interest in developing the use of marine diatoms for Cenozoic biostratigraphy and their integration with other dating methods. I have been involved in 6 research expeditions to the polar regions.
