I am Programme Leader of the BA (Hons) Interior Decoration, Design & Styling degree. This programme at Arts University Plymouth is one of very few in the UK which develops skills in interior design and styling, emphasising the importance of colour, surface, decoration and ambience in the interior environment.I bring 20+ years experience of working in industry to the programme, and continue to oversee my busy design practice alongside this role.

SWWIC is a network of women with one thing in common: construction. SWWIC provides women in the south west from any discipline, trade or organisation involved in construction with the opportunity to meet, network and share knowledge and experience.

Cornish Interiors was first established in 2003 by Director Cathryn Bishop. Cathryn has a degree in Interior and Spatial Related Design, and 20+ years of interior design experience. With several years of working for large developers combined with lots of work in the hospitality industry, Cathryn isn’t a typical designer and prides herself on a practical approach, without compromising on aesthetics.With offices in Plymouth and North Cornwall we have completed projects all over the UK.We have long established relationships with some of the best suppliers of soft furnishings, furniture, lighting, bathroom and kitchen fittings as well as a large network of trades people and professionals appropriate for any aspect of a project.We are passionate about the wealth of design talent based in the South West and make a point to support local suppliers wherever possible. We’re also aware of the need to keep an eye on the bottom line, and with established supplier accounts, always ensure our purchasing is competitive.

I was headhunted to oversee all things design related at this established property development company. This initially involved interior design, primarily for show homes and internal finishes in communal areas. I was quickly promoted to look after sales and marketing as well, guiding potential purchasers through the reservation process, setting up and overseeing advertising schedules and overseeing the day to day running of a busy marketing suite.

I was recruited as junior designer for a successful property developer with a portfolio of several restaurants. I became responsible for the conversion of a former convent to a 15 bed boutique hotel. I designed every detail, and was responsible for budgeting and procurement throughout, buying everything from beds to cutlery. I also project managed the build to completion, which was a huge learning curve and bolstered my confidence in my own ability. In addition to this I designed and implemented the refurbishment of a successful gastro pub, and designed and project managed another conversion, of a former glass blowing house to a restaurant.

I helped run a busy fine wine merchants, assisting in building the business from scratch, establishing a client base, filing accounts on SAGE, organising tastings and cash handling. I joined the business as a Sales Assistant and was promoted to Assistant Manager. I gained two WSET certificates during my employment and learnt a great deal about the subject.
