Coming from a large family of engineers, I broke the mold by entering the field of psychology. I have always been fascinated with people - their behaviors and relationships -so I naturally gravitated to social settings (volunteering at my elementary school, performing roles as a teaching assistant, acting as flute section lead in marching band, etc.)While at UCI, I was Project Manager for a lab, where I learned to balance a number of responsibilities - coordinating the schedules of other assistants, communicating with participants, and acting as a bridge between the Project Director and the rest of the lab. After studying abroad in London, I decided to take up running (the fact that my pants were more than a little tight helped as well). A few months into a more active lifestyle, I discovered the UCI Team Up! challenge course. In only a few months, I had moved up from a mere Shadow to a Senior Lead Facilitator. The environment on the course is definitely unique, as I have worked outdoor programs rain or shine, hot or cold. It has allowed me to interact with groups of all sizes, ages, and occupations. I have developed the ability to understand the verbal and non-verbal cues of others, and how to communicate/approach a situation accordingly. Since graduating, I have worked for The Walt Disney Company, primarily as a Guest Relations Hostess. Guest Relations operates in a fast-paced environment, assisting with many situations, both good and bad. It is my job to have a strong understanding of numerous services and policies in the Resort, and to clearly communicate them. No two days are the same, so I excel at remaining flexible and maintaining a level head during high-stress situations. My fellow Cast Members have praised my ability to listen and pick out key pieces of information before acting, thus balancing efficiency with the need to take my time with each situation.
