Multi-award-winning Spa Director and hospitality leader, Cathy Ball brings over 30 years of expertise in the hotel, spa and wellness industry. Known for her strategic insight and ambition-driving leadership, Cathy specialises in transforming spas into high-performance assets. Now retired from day-to-day operations, she’s eager to bring her strategic expertise to additional non-executive roles, particularly with businesses looking to expand into the spa and wellness sector with the ambition to act as a valuable and pivotal revenue driving department in a hotel portfolio. She’s also looking to give her time through a charity trustee role – she’s now also works with a local refugee charity to provide support and mentoring to asylum seekers in Bristol. Throughout her career, Cathy concentrated considerable time to developing the team around her, as well as aspiring managers outside the spa sector, and is enjoying transferring her skills in mentoring to the charity sector. More about Cathy: Since being appointed to Calcot Hotel’s board in 2003 to lead in the opening of the new spa, the hotel’s membership and wellness offering has been a consistent and significant revenue driver, supporting the growth of Calcot Hotel from 20 to 35 bedrooms, and elevating the brand’s growth from one hotel to a portfolio of four thriving properties with over 450 employees. She also led the development of Calcot’s own luxury bathing brand, sold in supermarkets nationwide, creating new and significant profit streams for the Collection. Most recently, Cathy led the vision and execution of Calcot’s 10-year £5 million spa expansion project, staying on as a consultant for the final stages of the project following her retirement. Since opening the additional facilities in January 2024, the project has increased the hotel’s membership capacity from 550 to 850 members by building a new wellness facility housing gyms, 3 studios and workspace, and reconfiguring the existing spa to create more capacity for day spas.
