Responsible for the Prevention Portfolio of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service's (SFRS). This includes the oversight and production of organisational policies and resources to meet statutory requirements in relation to prevention and wider community safety. Managing a talented team of uniformed and support staff, the Function has responsibility for a wide remit including; community safety campaigns, youth engagement, national Home Fire Safety Visit programme, road and water safety, assistive technology, ageing safely, safeguarding, home safety, and deliberate fire reduction

Responsible for the design and delivery of the SFRS’s Community Safety Engagement Strategy; supporting the Service’s strategic objectives and ensuring the Service fulfils its statutory requirements under the Fire Scotland Act (2005). This included:development and implementation of strategies and polices;budgetary preparation and management; monitoring and reviewing of community safety activities;monitoring and improving national community safety performance and supporting continuous improvement;developing and implementing procedures;management and delivery of projects; and leading and managing national community safety staff.

Secondment to work on a Scottish Government commissioned study to investigate the disproportionate number of fires deaths and injuries in Scotland when compared to other UK and European countries. Primary and secondary source research undertaken including statistical analysis of fire incidents, health data and socio-demographics, and a thorough review of current community safety practices and their effectiveness.Consultation and engagement with stakeholders from across the UK including Fire and Rescue Services, local authorities, police, health and housing experts, and the third sector.Publication of a formal report with associated recommendations intended to shape the future direction of Community Safety Engagement in Scotland.Development and publication of two supporting documents, a Technical Report and Good Practice Guide.
