I am committed to improving the health (including mental health) of people with intellectual disability and those on the autism spectrum. I am a psychiatrist and a clinician researcher, and I lead a fantastic team of committed people at the Queensland Centre of Excellence in Autism and Intellectual Disability Health, based at the Mater Hospital in South Brisbane. Our work includes a clinical service for adolescents and adults with intellectual disability and / or on the autism spectrum; an active research centre as part of Mater Research Institute-UQ, and this year we were successful in the tender application to deliver the Queensland Centre of Excellence in Intellectual and Developmental Disability Mental Health. Our research works focuses on building the capacity of the health and mental health sectors to provide better quality health care to people with intellectual disability and Autistic people. I lead the EASY-Health project, innovative online education for healthcare professionals and also have a special interest in Down syndrome mental health, including Down syndrome regression disorder.
