To provide my experience story, I must talk about my company, Edge 4. Working in the web design and development industry for 24 years has required myself and my partner to change directions several times. In the early 2000s, we designed creative websites for high-end resorts and real estate communities all over the US and Mexico. We developed custom backend systems for these sites before open-source CMSs were widely available. With this programming knowledge, we eventually created our own proprietary content management system (The Content Manager) to provide the custom functionality that our websites required. We subsequently upgraded our CMS and renamed it DataWave. This enabled new features to better handle recent demands such as responsive websites, alias site page names, asset management, and easy customizability of complex data modules. Over the years, we have created, hosted, and maintained hundreds of client’s websites including small, medium, and large companies in many different industries. Most recently, we decided to pick a lane and focus our attention on our expertise in PHP programming and project management. As an example, we developed a multifaceted system for a recruiting company to manage their day-to-day operations instead of relying on macro run Excel documents. This includes integrating data through an api from their staffing agency software (Bullhorn), their payroll system, and manual data input. It calculates and keeps track historically of gross profits, commissions, goals, health care, management comparisons, work-from-home tracking, and much more. My role in the company includes every aspect of the business except complex programming. I am the primary point of contact for all customers and vendors. I collaborate with our clients to prepare schematics, providing these to programmers for development guidance. I design, format, and organize digital assets. I track client renewals and information for domains, hosting, campaigns, social media, and all web related information. I discuss new potential projects with prospects and create proposals. And I collaborate with accounting and administration on financials and invoicing.
