Cathy Lucas, Founder of Lucas Narratives, is an award-winning communication strategist and published author who takes communication programs to new levels of success. She has guided numerous organizations to build and refine the way they communicate their strategic stories into one coherent strategy. Cathy formed Lucas Narratives after building the brand of a regional college into a nationally-recognized urban university, cultivating a myriad of senior leaders into nationally recognized thought leaders, and establishing her own reputation as a counted-on community partner who delivers outcomes. At Lucas Narratives, Cathy does what she loves—helping other organizations tell their stories through what she calls her four roots of focus –powerful communications and brand strategy, thought leader placement and stakeholder engagement.A unique communicator, Cathy was the driving force behind the creation of two university-wide strategic plans that included a complex mapping of stakeholder engagement. Her work has been recognized by the Council of Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) , the Denver Business Journal and the Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce.Cathy is a proud University of Northern Colorado Bear where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism. She is an Accredited Public Relations (APR) professional. Prior to founding Lucas Narratives, Cathy served as the Vice President of Strategy and External Affairs at Metropolitan State University of Denver.Cathy’s accomplishments include:• Built a nationally recognized brand through strategic storytelling, a refreshed brand platform, a signature brand journalism program, increased earned and social media placements, and award-winning advertising campaigns. •Effectively led a highly talented 20-member strategy, marketing and communications team, which received the 2018 Colorado PRSA Public Relations Team of the Year. •Created a strong advocacy and public affairs program, which supported many successes at the legislature, including a university name change, the generation of additional General Fund for operating and capital allocations, and championing a nationally recognized special in-state resident tuition rate for undocumented students. •Demonstrated success in creating and sustaining deep relationships with key influencers, including media, business and community leaders and elected officials.•Dedicated community leader who gives back through board service and volunteerism.
