The opportunity arose to join Walker & Walker Waterproofing on a short term basis to prepare the company for an ISO9001:2015 audit. This included the creation and implementation of a Quality Management System prior to assessment. I ran my first adventure group holiday independently in Sept 2006 and worked with James Thompson, the company founder, as a leader on cross country skiing trips, gentler walking trips and road cycling holidays. Direct and individual, quality, customer interactions were so valuable - and I saw first hand how important product & service quality is, and how to best meet and exceed client expectations. Stakeholders had diverse needs: clients, sometimes their families too, staff, suppliers (hotels, restaurants, transport providers), and travel company associates. With legal and moral requirements to focus on Health, Safety and Well being, I developed dynamic risk assessment skills. Every adventure we ran was an individual project to be managed. Every client was key. I honed my communication skills, and properly enjoyed the rewards of working direct with service users. As the business grew, I developed processes to support that growth in all areas: Governance (UK & French) Recruitment, Team Development, Business Strategy, Product Development, & Marketing. I developed a database system for our increasing number of reservations, and a website that accurately represented our brand. With a strong focus on client satisfaction, retention and return figures were impressive, and personal, meaningful positive feedback was the norm. In the time I worked for Marmot Tours, it grew from sole trader status to a company exceeding £1m turnover. More importantly, it was exceptionally highly reviewed by its loyal client base and had a team of proactive and dedicated staff, many of whom still enjoy working for the company today, as it continues it's successful trajectory.
