I have a passion for education. I chose the path of becoming an educator based on my own struggles as a student in the K-12 system. I have focused on teaching predominantly at risk students my entire career. I have worked and continue to work with foster students, McKinney-Vinto students, students in the juvenile court system as well as many other groups of students in challenging life circumstance. In my current role, I manage our ELD Department, our Intervention Department, our Foster/Homeless Department as well as the department that runs all of our 504’s, SST’s and NAM’s. I created and continue to manage our social emotional learning professional development and programs and specifically drive our trauma informed practices initiatives. I also lead all student engagement programs that drive school attendance and course engagement. As a teacher, I employed project-based, collaboratively designed lessons with my students. It provided an opportunity for students of all backgrounds, learning styles and abilities to contribute. My students had the opportunity to experience successes, often for the first time. This led to confidence and purpose. They would rededicate themselves to learning each time they experienced another success. Each time they would reach a little higher and achieve a little more. Students who would otherwise act out in other classrooms, would be leaders, confidently presenting learning to their peers in my classroom. This has shaped my mission as a leader. I want to use my practice as an educator and a leader of educators to create this learning experience for all students. As a school leader, I have facilitated the creation and continue to manage multiple departments including Instructional Coaching, Teacher Training along with those already mentioned. I have managed and executed change management and led school culture initiatives. I continue to manage our marketing campaigns as well as our social platforms.
