Since joining the Firm in 1992, I have litigated a broad spectrum of cases in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies. Many of the cases I have worked on have involved issues of first impression. Litigation PracticeI have served as litigation counsel for a group of financial service companies in class action lawsuits and arbitration in several states. I have also served as national trial and appellate counsel in defending a firearms manufacturer in nationwide litigation brought by various municipalities and individuals. I served as principal author of numerous appellate briefs submitted on behalf of the manufacturer-defendants in those cases. I have defended a society of Catholic priests in childhood sexual abuse cases, and have represented school administrators in disciplinary proceedings before the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners and Maryland State Board of Education. I have argued appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the Maryland Court of Appeals, and the Maryland Court of Special Appeals. Health Care PracticeI have represented physicians, physician practice groups, hospitals, and health insurance carriers and administrators in a variety of business and contract disputes. I have defended physicians accused of Medicaid fraud and False Claims Act violations and have represented physicians and nursing home administrators in disciplinary proceedings before the Board of Physicians, the Board of Nursing Home Administrators, and various Medical Review Committees. I regularly advise clients on matters before the Maryland Health Care Commission. Family LawMy family law cases have involved a range of issues, including valuation of marital assets, isolating the marital and non-marital components of assets, tracing and proof of assets, indefinite alimony, and custody disputes.
