Senior Historian
CurrentI recommend, conduct, and oversee original historical research done in specified areas in support of the museum's major interpretive goals and educational mission. I conduct and oversee research in response to questions raised by interpretive and research personnel and in support of major assigned projects. I assemble, evaluate, and analyze data from primary and secondary sources using recognized research methods and present findings in reports, memos, lectures, conference papers, articles, book chapters, monographs, and professional blogs or other appropriate venues.I serve as a leader of a research team or teams working on major projects and as a staff liaison supervising the work done on projects by research assistants, associates, fellows, interns, and volunteers, ensuring that the work meets Foundation and professional standards.I propose appropriate research strategies, methodologies, and techniques and provide input into the development on ongoing research projects.I maintain contact with researchers and scholars from outside the Foundation. I respond to queries for information, critique works, keep abreast of recent historical literature and interpretive best practices, maintain awareness of state-of-the-art research and emerging historical arguments, and seek opportunities to infuse programming with current historical scholarship.I review and consult with program development teams, site managers, and individual interpreters to ensure proposals, programs, characters, scenes, tours, and other programming reflect current historical knowledge and interpretive best practices.I work with colleagues in developing and teaching courses in assigned areas.I present lectures, audio-visual presentations, tours, and other programs to internal and external audiences.I review materials published by CWF, such as books and teachers’ guides, and other print and digital materials to ensure soundness of historical claims.
