I first became involved with Dyspraxia when my daughter Lydia was diagnosed with it at just 5 years old. This was the start of a steep learning curve for Lydia and the entire family.It was a long hard journey getting Lydia's dyspraxia recognised in school and I quickly became aware of the lack of training for teachers and other key professionals in this surprisingly common but extremely poorly recognised condition. It was an isolating experience which has had long lasting effects. I set about learning as much as I possibly could about about dyspraxia by attending courses, conferences, reading every book or article.Having gained a vast amount of knowledge and experience I set up Dyspraxia Education now a charity to support other children and families going through the same experience. Twenty years later:Dyspraxia Education is a charity with a big heart for children, young people and their families affected by dyspraxia also called Developmental Co-ordination Disorder. We know the most effective way to achieve this is to train and support the adults in their world.At Dyspraxia Education we offer help lines, support, training and workshops. Many teachers have received no training on Dyspraxia and feel very unprepared in supporting these children. The helpline is available for parents, teaching staff and other professionals to use. I feel that every teacher should know about dyspraxia because there will be a child in their classroom with this condition.We offer affordable quality training for schools, professionals and parents both online and face to face.
