This office was established under my leadership and is responsible for complete procurement, contracting, design and construction oversight of Mason’s largest ever Capital Building Program. Projects included within this program include a $120M new high profile academic building located in the heart of campus and a $50M underground utility replacement project impacting highly visible primary and secondary circulation paths in the campus core. Developed the Initial 6 Year Capital Request and managed procurement of A/E and Construction Manager through competitive RFP process.Currently managing 16 design phase contracts ranging from A/E and CM at Risk to Survey, Geotechnical Services, Environmental Impact Reports, Hazardous Materials Identification and Commissioning Services.Established a new project office with staff of 3 currently.Working with a wide range of project stakeholders to shepherd the project through the design phases at the same time working through the regulatory and budget approval process. Regularly present progress and obtain approvals from Mason’s Board of Visitors. In addition to work on setting up this large building program, I also led the planning and execution of two highly successful Presidential level planning initiatives to develop visionary plans for two of Mason’s significant real estate assets.

Established in 2008 under my leadership, Office of Campus Planning (OCP) oversees strategic facilities planning, campus master planning, long range utility planning, architectural development standards and guidelines, landscape standards, interior design standards, university wide space management standards/guidelines and campus art standards. This unit leads University Capital Planning, as well as liaises with Facilities Project Management and Construction, academic and business units to ensure campus plans incorporate mission requirements. Successfully developed 7 Capital Plan submissions averaging $1B six year campus development plans. Oversight and management of a diverse team of highly motivated individuals including University Architect, Office of Space Management, and Office of Campus Planning totaling 10 staff members.Key liaison with external constituents including university appointed member of Fairfax Campus and Arlington Campus Advisory Boards.Comprehensive planning and design oversight for over 40 new construction and renovation projects executed since 2004.Oversee and coordinate planning and design activities of local, national and international architectural and engineering firms. Develop all technical land, building and space programs. Created template for Pre-Planning Capital Budget Request recognized by DPB/BCOM as standard to work toward for other Virginia agencies.Serve on a wide variety of University Committees, including of note, Space Administration Committee, Land and Building Committee, Strategic Plan Implementation Committee, Multi-Campus Strategy Committee, Classroom Advisory Committee, Student Service and Spaces Advisory Committee, and Learning Environments Group.Primarily Responsible for stewardship of existing University Master Plan created in 2002 along with other more recent precinct plans.

Office of Space Management is responsible for maintaining an accurate space inventory, inventory reporting, monitoring, strategizing and reporting on space utilization. Led the implementation of Archibus as Mason’s selected space inventory and data management system. This included establishing processes and procedures to coordinate university wide needs for space data as well as SCHEV’s annual space and utilization reporting requirements.During my 10 year tenure at Mason, space has grown from approximately 3M GSF to 8M GSF.  Highly efficient classroom utilization recognized by SCHEV &JLARC in VA.

Primary responsibilities include: Business Development, Managing Project Scope, Schedule and Budget, as well as operational/human resource management of Studio.Profitably direct/manage projects in 5M to 225M dollar range, primarily in the pharmaceutical, educational and corporate interiors market sectors. Strong emphasis on future workplace strategies in all project work.Successfully managed10 to 12 individuals providing strategies and guidance to keep individuals on task and growing within the organization.Created and persuasively presented a variety of business development presentations.

Founding partner of a small architectural consulting firm specializing in the development of strategic plans to address the requirements of the ADA. Expanded business to include deferred maintenance studies and implementation plans for incorporation into capital planning.Successfully obtained work in a variety of market sectors including financial services, private independent schools, college and university, municipal (city and state) and corporate.Authored articles related to ADA master planning in a number of publications.Received design awards in two affordable housing competitions.

H2L2 was originally founded in 1907 as the office of internationally renowned architect-educator Paul Philippe Cret. During my three year tenure at H2L2 I was responsible for 2 historically significant renovation projects on the campus of Haverford College.  Founders Hall and Chase Hall Renovations - Two of Haverford College's original structures, Founders and Chase Halls, underwent extensive restoration and renovation. The challenge was to design functional administrative facilities that creatively integrated energy efficiency, handicapped accessibility, and environmental considerations while remaining sensitive to the historic nature of 1830 and 1880 buildings respectively.
