My name is Cátia Bruno and I am a journalist based in Lisbon, Portugal, the city where I was born.I graduated in 2011 with a BA in Journalism. I worked as a staff writer for three national newspapers in the country - the prestigious Expresso, the longform focused Observador and the innovative i. I also did work as a freelance journalist and fixer for some international publications like The New York Times, Roads&Kingdoms, GlobalPost, New Eastern Europe, EU Observer and De Correspondent.I have reported from the first days of the large scale invasion of Ukraine from Lviv, France, the US, Greece, Hungary and Sweden, but also from places like Kaliningrad or Abu Dhabi, besides from my own country — Portugal. I covered the Brexit process in depth, including several reporting trips to the UK. The issues I care most about are foreign affairs and political changes, social issues, minorities’ rights and life stories.I have written about international politics for publications such as Sábado, Observador, Expresso, Novo and have worked as a fixer in Portugal for The New York Times. I am currently the World desk editor at Observador and work occasionally as a commentator for Times Radio and CNN Portugal.In 2024 I published "Um Espião no Kremlin", a book about Vladimir Putin based on the narrative podcast with the same name I have co-written for Observador.
