Development and application of new proteomics tools in medical research. Establishment of a fast and efficient trypsin digestion protocol for proteins in samples such as cerebrospinal fluid, blood plasma, saliva, and cell lysates. In-house preparation of immunoaffinity adsorbent and automated instrumentation setup for depletion of seven highly abundant proteins in cerebrospinal fluid and blood plasma. Preparation of novel polymer monolithic columns for nanoscale liquid chromatography separations.Guidance and tutoring of BSc, MSc, and PhD students. Projects include optimization of sample preparation, HAP depletion and trypsin digestion of CSF samples, determination of dopamine meabolites in CSF, proteomics studies of CSF related to Parkinson's disease, HPLC method for protein carbonyls in blood plasma, vitamin D status as risk factor in cardiovascular disease, and recently the use of LC-MS/MS for determination of melatonin and steroid hormones in saliva.
