Did I always know what I wanted to do when I left school, what I wanted to be when I grew up? No, many of my friends even my younger brother had a chosen career path but I wasn't quite sure. For that reason, I chose not to attend university or college on finishing secondary school but instead decided to head straight into the workplace hoping to find my feet there. I had always been good with maths and my time working in Safeway whilst school showed me I was good with money, well other peoples maybe not my own! The bank seemed like a good start little did I know it would be the beginning of a 15-year career.Working in the bank taught me a lot many transferable skills which I don't think in my early 20's I fully recognised, the ability to have financial discussions with people both senior and junior to myself, timekeeping, attention to detail, due diligence, and most of all the ability to build relationships.Since leaving the bank I have applied many of these skills to the roles I have carried out, even taking a short spell in self-employment only to realise it wasn't for me. During the 8 years since I left the bank I have grown my network, explored new industries and begun to define and discover what makes me tick.Building relationships is something I love to do, along with talk as my dad says but nowadays I think I also listen better too, piecing the puzzle together and offering support where I can.I enjoy helping people, whether that be popping on my boiler suit to help the engineers in the workshop, making connections with other business to create stronger offerings or just taking on extra responsibility to lighten someone elses load.Away from the office you will still find me offering to help my husband says I like to juggle plates, but I say if you want a job done give it to a busy person! My family mean everything to me we are small but in my mind perfectly formed, a Saturday night with a movie or a Sunday spent freezing beside a football pitch are my happy places. If asked to describe myself in just a short sentence it would be 'Sunshine mixed with a little bit of hurricane, passionate about all things business and bringing great people together', so why not connect, get in touch, have a coffee and share your story.

Business ManagerEcosse Ip Ltd (Eip) Jul 2018 - Apr 2021BanchoryJoining EIP from business launch day in July 2018 my role was to build relationships with potential clients, clients, suppliers and contractors’ which in turn will lead to long term business relationships for EIP and its technology. The role also involved overseeing some of the main office activities to maintain the smooth running of the office including weekly accounts, HSQE, administration and maintenance of the CRM.EIP designs, develops, builds and operates a range of subsea equipment. Technologies include subsea ambient lifting, rigid pipe-lay spool-bases, and pipe-lay systems and. In addition, EIP is currently developing technologies for renewable energy applications which include FLOWT and MOWTIn March 2020 the world was hit by the Covid 19 Pandemic and much of the activity we carried out at EIP was paused and I along with much of the team were placed on furlough. During this time I accessed where I wanted my career to go and was lucky enough to be offered a new role as Sales Manager with a new company to Aberdeen and the Oil & gas sector. My time with EIP taught me so much and I was able to use many of my old banking skills especially when we were working towards our ISO certification. It was during my time at EIP that I began my university degree and for that opportunity alone I am eternally grateful. -
Director/OwnerCs Sales & Admin Jul 2016 - Jul 2018Aberdeen, United KingdomSetting up on my own was something I had never actually considered however in July 2016 I was offered a contractor position with a small IT firm in Aberdeen who were looking to break into new markets and grow their business. This first contract was the start of a two year journey of self employment which had its ups and downs. I used my previous experience to lend a helping hand to other business owners whether that be Business Development of general sales administration.Over the two years I supported numerous businesses:Appetite for Business, Rig Control Products, Maisie-Jane Functional Accessories, Gift Wrapped & Gorgeous, Alan Rutherford Wealth Management, Auditel, bodyGEOMETRICS, Sarah Downs Ltd & Wellahead Engineering.Being self employed with various clients allowed me to development my time management skills, resilience and of course leadership skills.Despite not actually looking for a staff role in May 2018 I was approached by a former bank client and asked to join the new company she was heading up as Managing Director, if I am honest I had not fully enjoyed the experience of being self employed and this was a great opportunity to join a new team. I set about winding up my business and joined Ecosse IP in July 2018.

Company Co OrdinatorThor Holt Ltd. Apr 2014 - Jul 2016Aberdeen, United KingdomFollowing a years maternity leave I joined Thor Holt Ltd as Company Coordinator looking after a husband and wife duo with two separate businesses. This role was a great confidence boost for me following on from the bank and showed me many of the transferable skills I had. Both of these businesses were at different stages, Thor's already established with a good following and some regular clients however Katy was in the early stages of business which required a different approach. My role was very varied accounts, invoicing, client emails, supplier sourcing, client meetings and proposals. As we were all working remotely communication and effective use of the CRM system was important to make sure we were an efficient team. During my time with Thor Holt I learnt how to present effectively and had my first public speaking engagement. It was during my time at Thor Holt that Business Connect was originally developed known as HellFighters & Business Impact. In 2016 due to the Oil & gas downturn and reduced revenue to the business I decided to leave and set up on my own offering outsourced business development. I still remain great friends with Katy & Thor regularly referring them business opportunities.

Private Banking Relationship ManagerBank Of Scotland (Part Of Lloyds Banking Group) Oct 2008 - Oct 2013Aberdeen, United KingdomI moved to Private Banking to manage a large portfolio of high net worth clients, however the start of my new role also coincided with the financial crash of 2008 and therefore initially was more of a fighting fires role than a relationship building one. As the banks stabilised again I began to meet my client base, understand their needs and build long term relationships that meant no matter if the situation was good or bad my clients knew who to call and that I would assist. This role although based in the Aberdeen office was a remotely managed role with my line manager based in Edinburgh, this at times was challenging however I built a good relationship with the local director in Aberdeen who was always willing to support. I was a regular top performer in this role with reward trips to London and Edinburgh. In 2013 the bank began restructuring again and I was offered voluntary redundancy, which was good timing as I was now expecting my second child. I still however remain in contact with a number of my clients. -
Assistant Branch ManagerBank Of Scotland Oct 2004 - Oct 2008Deeside ClusterI initially joined the Deeside Cluster as Assistant Branch Manager at Banchory on a 6 month secondment however when the 6 months ended I was offered the permanent role of Assistant Branch Manager managing Ballater & Braemar Branches.Working in a small town was at time challenging as you were seen as the outsider and the previous manager had left under bad circumstances which meant there was a lot of trust to be gained with both the customers and staff of the branch. My role here meant I was responsible for two offices and 6 staff. We had a regular client base in both branches which made it hard for sales targets however in 2006 Q3 & 4 we were the top performing branches across the area, something they'd never achieved before.Managing these branches taught me resilience, especially in the early days how to manage a team as well as how to be part of the team and the ability to report direct to the senior leadership team.Following the birth of my first son, I returned to a part time role within the Banchory branch before joining Private Banking. -
Banking AdviserBank Of Scotland Mar 2003 - Oct 2004InverurieMy role as banking Adviser was something I really enjoyed, one to one customer interviews to open new accounts and identify other cross selling opportunities. This was a role I flourished in helping our branch achieve top sales status and recognised as an individual top performer.I was however ready for the next new challenge and applied for a 6 month seconded position as Assistant Branch Manager at Banchory Branch. -
Mortgage AdvisorBank Of Scotland May 2002 - Mar 2003InverurieMy role of Mortgage Adviser initially was to cover other Mortgage Advisers across our area during holidays and staff absence. This had it's own challenges as often you were picking up colleagues work with no handover or previous relationship with the client, I did however enjoy visiting the other branches and building relationships with each of the Branch Managers. In late 2002 I was appointed Mortgage Adviser at Inverurie Branch to cover a colleagues maternity leave. At the same time as this happened the Financial Services Authority introduced new mortgage regulation which meant that all Mortgage Advisers needed to hold CMAP qualifications. Sadly I was unable to obtain my CMAP and was instead offered an alternative position as Banking Adviser at Inverurie. -
Customer Sales And Service OfficerBank Of Scotland Sep 2000 - May 2002Bridge Of Don & DyceMy first role with the Bank of Scotland was very similar to my role with Clydesdale Bank and allowed me to build on the experience I'd gained there. Following on from my High Cash experience I spent a long time within the Business Cash facility at both Bridge of Don and Dyce branches. This was a high traffic counter where you were responsible for both your own cash pool as well as the overall cash of the branch. I enjoyed the fast pace of the Business Cash and building relationships with the regular business banking clients. Part of this role also gave me the experience of account opening with clients, which involved one to one appointments, credit scoring and order of all relevant account facilities.Following internal movement of staffing I was offered the role of Mortgage Adviser, initially covering the North East Area. -
Customer Service OfficerClydesdale Bank Jun 1998 - Sep 2000AberdeenFollowing the completion of higher education I joined the Clydesdale Bank at Great Western Road Branch. The branch was just a small office with only 6 staff which gave me a great opportunity to get experience in various roles across the branch. Just a year in though the branch closed due to low footfall and we were relocated to the Principle office at Queens Cross. Working in a much larger office came with a few challenges initially, trying to integrate our customer based and deal with a much higher volume of customers. We took rotas on working different desks within the office from the front counter, high cash, CHAPS desk and general esquires desk. I enjoyed the fast pace and high volume of work in the high cash, despite it being a little isolating. My time in the Clydesdale Bank taught me how to prioritise tasks, manage a busy work load and to deal with varying different customers.I moved to Bank of Scotland after just two years with Clydesdale as the promotion and career development opportunities were much higher with Bank Of Scotland. -
Cash Office And File Management ClerkSafeway Sep 1996 - Jun 1998WesthillI joined Safeway whist I was still in full time education. I was looking to save money for my first car a year later and to have my own cash to spend. Initially I started out on the checkouts but was soon asked to join the cash office and file management team, this for someone aged 16 was a responsible job. Working a Wed evening and Sat all day (extra during holidays) I was responsible for the balancing of tills, change over of the shelf edge price labels, price checks and balancing the safe at the end of the day.Working in Safeway taught me cash management skills, time keeping and organisation. When I left school in 1998 following my higher exams I moved on from Safeway to pursue a full time role within Clydesdale Bank.
