As the Cyborg Anthropologist in Residence for NTT, the world's largest telecom, MJ (and his research team) focused on the changes our world will experience in the next hundred years through the lens of the relationship between humans and technology. As key business leaders like client CTOs and CIOs visited NTT's Innovation Institute, MJ presented to and had in-depth conversations with them about the possibilities—and ethics—of technologies like artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (and its coming successor, the Social Network of Things), Big and Little Data, nanotechnology, robotics, and the like in domain like financial services, governments, healthcare, education, and mobility.MJ authored or co-authored several thought leadership e-books, worked with global automaker practice leads to develop a digital strategy program, created a cybersecurity vision for Dimension Data, consulted for end clients in multiple countries, advised the global CEO of NTT and many other NTT group C-suite executives.

Catalina Labs was a stealth mode company that aims to change the way consumers manage their digital lives in a world full of connected devices and complex home networks, later acquired by a major consumer tech company.

MJ worked with colleagues Anna Choi and Matthew Koren and an extraordinary team of volunteers to produce TEDxBellevue. TEDxBellevue was an independently organized TED event focused on sustainable happiness, and MJ's work included the curation of content, support of the project lead, Anna Choi, coordination of teams and major relationships, organization of the video editing process, and team lead coaching. MJ launched and scaled an event entertainment company to create jobs for community members and help planners host smashing events! Guests recorded a seven-second video in the Fliptogaphy booth at their party, wedding, or corporate occasion and received a handmade paper flipbook in two minutes. Great for corporate occasions, parties & weddings. Fliptography, LLC was a project business of Causeit, Inc. that scaled a national brand larger than its competitors, attracting clients like Nike, Adidas, Scion, First Round Capital and other global players.

Representing the diversity found in the Portland business community, MJ helped provide an organized voice for small businesses with the Portland City Council on policies that impact them. MJ served on the Cost of Doing Business subcommittee and offered assistance in liaisons with minority/young entrepreneurs and the LGBTQ community.

MJ helped launch one of the first Apple Stores and focused on Business to business sales and consultation, focusing on complete solutions and integration of third-party productivity software.

As the Assistant Operations Manager for Portland's East Side franchise, MJ collaborated with the business owners to transform their hiring and training practices while growing the franchise into new markets. The franchise went from four driver-operators to twenty-five between 04-06, relocated, and radically shifted the diversity of its employee body.
