Hi! My name is Cayce, Doctor of Occupational Therapy new graduate! As an occupational therapy student, I have been well equipped to assist those who are injured, ill, or disabled, to overcome cognitive challenges, physical disabilities based on a thorough assessment of their individual needs. Throughout my time in graduate school, I have gained essential skills in program development with being the first student co-director of the Student Mentors for Minorities in Healthcare organization. I have gained clinical skills by volunteering in the Community Aid, Relief, Education & Support organization under the supervision of licensed clinicians. I have skills in empathic design as I was awarded runner-up in a project developed in collaboration with the Human Centered Design Studio. I have developed strong research skills through my graduate capstone studies in stroke rehabilitation such as the ability to administer standardized assessments and analyze data sets. I have a number of involvements such as student ambassador for the college of health professions, Student Occupational Therapy Association, Student Diversity Leadership Council and Supplemental Instructor for musculoskeletal courses – all which have supported skill development in the areas of creative problem solving, organizing and communication. These roles and experiences also developed my ability to express empathy, support and encourage others, and collaborate with among an interdisciplinary team. In addition to my rich time in didactics, I have first hand experience in providing rehabilitation services to patients with burn/skin disorders, physical deficits, joint replacement, stroke, cardiovascular concerns. I have been exposed working intensely in the ICU setting, Acute care and Inpatient Rehabilitation facility. I am also comfortable in pediatric settings, skilled nursing facilities, and other specialty practice settings. I have a desire to advance my practice and training to become a wound care specialist. I am also interested in pursuing my lymphedema certification. I hope to gain my first OT position post graduation and licensing in May 2023!
