Dr. Barnes served as Research Director for Minorities With Lupus. Dr. Barnes served as Senior Research Associate for the Beloved Community Center (BCC) for four years.Prior to coming to the Beloved Community Center Dr. Barnes served as Vice President of Operations for Canvas Studios, Inc., a multi-media and film production company. This company was the driving force behind the documentary, "Walls That Bleed: The Story of the Dudley/A&T Student Revolt." Before coming to Canvas Studios, Dr. Barnes taught political science courses for 16 years at North Carolina A&T State University. While teaching at North Carolina A&T State University he also served as chair of the department of political science from and Associate Dean for Research, Operations and Assessment in the College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Barnes retired as an Associate Professor of Political Science in January 2009. Before coming to A&T Dr. Barnes taught political science at South Carolina State University, Georgia State University, Georgia Institute of Technology and Spelman College. Dr. Barnes research specialties include: Grant writing, African American Politics and History; Spatial Analysis, Data Visualization, Geographic Information Systems (GIS); Social Science Research Methods; Racial Disparity and Social Justice Research; Urban Political Economy; and Documentary Production.
