About Chandra Breanne Curry, Phd

I am a dedicated physicist and project scientist with several years of groundbreaking work in physics, strategic leadership roles within the US government, and notable accomplishments in scientific research. Focusing on high-energy-density physics and laser-plasma interactions, I completed my Ph.D. at the University of Alberta, achieving recognition through prestigious awards and scholarships. These include the NSERC Postgraduate Doctoral Scholarship and the University of Alberta President’s Doctoral Prize of Distinction.Currently, I serve as the LaserNetUS Coordinator in the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science, Fusion Energy Sciences (FES), where I oversee the integration and strategic development of a network comprising 12of North America’s premier high-power laser facilities. Here, I manage a collaborative research program aimed at advancing high-power laser research. My responsibilities involve strategic program oversight, promoting user engagement, and enhancing the program’s objectives through effective communication and collaboration with the Department of Energy. At SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, I put my knowledge of ultra-intense laser-plasma interactions to work on the Matter in Extreme Conditions Upgrade Project. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, we design the future of laser facilities, marking a significant leap in laser-matter interaction studies.I am an active participant in various scientific communities, contributing as a mentor in the DOE's Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships program and engaging in peer-review activities for reputable scientific journals, with over 32 publications and significant citations. My leadership extends into organizing key scientific workshops and conferences, promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing among researchers. As a member of several professional organizations, including the APS-DPP and IEEE, I facilitate the integration of cutting-edge science into public policy and the private sector. Beyond the lab, I am an advocate for diversity in STEM, mentoring the next generation of scientists to ensure that our research community reflects the world it serves. This commitment isn't just professional; it's personal, driven by my experiences of working in the field as a woman in tech. In both public service and the private sector, I'm eager to use my specialized knowledge to help shape a future that sees science and technology as essential for sustainable development and improving societal well-being.
