• Transformed initial role as BU’s sole technical writer to founder and manager of Akamai’s only integrated team of technical writers and user-experience practitioners embedded in a revenue-generating BU.
• Developed, maintained, and publicized team’s mission, roadmaps, roles, responsibilities, and processes.
• Collaborated with leaders in BU’s product management and engineering teams to integrate writers and UX designers into the complete software development lifecycle (SDLC). Assigned and assessed work by balancing business.
• Introduced industry-standard user-research methods as part of experience design, usability assessment, and documentation evaluations; made our BU the only one to incorporate UX research as a standard practice.
• Constructed a complete hiring toolkit unique to the needs of our Documentation and User Experience (DUX) team. This included evaluative criteria for resumes and portfolios, take-home exercises, and role-specific.
• Provided individual-contributor technical documentation and UX artifacts including user guides, online help, sitemaps, workflows, interaction designs, low and medium-fidelity wireframes, and prototypes.

WordTechie was my adventure in self-employment. I had some great projects with some super clients, but ultimately decided to return to a more conventional (and predictable) employment situation.

• Designed and delivered software courses, including one-of-a-kind workshops such as Word for Writers and Untangling the Ribbon: Transitioning from Word 2003 to 2007.
• Created custom course materials, including high-level conceptual documentation, task-specific procedural instructions, diagrams, and data visualizations.
• Built student fan base, garnering repeat enrollment and recurring revenue for the school.
