Founder And Lead InnovatorCress Consulting, Llc. Jun 2023 - PresentUnited States2023 Working in support of a Customer, I supported a NATO experiment focused upon checkpoint operations using standoff and portal detection devices. The experiment supplemented an earlier NATO experiment conducted OCONUS. The experiment was executed at Fort Moore, Ga, developing over 500 new data sets supporting Countering Personel Borne Improved Explosive Devices. -
Innovation Advocate LnoEdgewood Chemical Biological Center Apr 2021 - Jun 2023Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, United StatesI supported the Engineering Directorate of Chemical Biological Center (CBC) as required, primarily oriented upon strategic projects and new initiatives. In this role, I prepared discussion papers describing potential use cases for emerging technologies with an emphasis upon the CBC tech base, SBIR developments and Commercial IR&D efforts. I also supported specific customer requests and promoted CBC capabilities to existing and potential customers. I am a 2022 winner of the MG Harry Greene acquisition writing competition in the category of innovation. That paper will be published in a special edition of AT&L magazine CY23. I published an article addressing CBRN challenges to Sustainment in Army Sustainment magazine December 2021. My most recent article is in draft for publication, it addresses Innovation in the area of CBRN capability development and prototyping, specifically addressing the area of Technical Reconnaissance. During the period 2020-2022 I wrote 14 Capability Set Proposals addressing the art of the possible when leveraging emerging technologies to address known and derived operational challenges. Two of those CAPSETS proposals, Semi-Autonomous Contamination Mitigation (Autonomous Decontamination) and visibility of CBRN Named Areas of Interest (Deployable micro sensors) transitioned to become funded research projects. During this period, I mentored Senior Engineer students at University of Missouri Science and Technology in the area of Engineering Management. -
Technical Representative( Lno)Edgewood Chemical Biological Center Oct 2008 - Mar 2021Edgewood, Maryland UsaI was assigned to the Engineering Directorate of the Chemical and Biological Center (CBC) which is located at Aberdeen Proving Ground/ Edgewood, Maryland. I was posted to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri with the U.S. Army Chemical School and the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence. While I have a host of administrative coordination functions while representing my Development Center, I view my most important function to be facilitating the integration of technology applications to address User Operational challenges ( gaps). To do that, I work with military and civilian personnel in the Capability Needs Analysis process. This process defines Army needs by organization and task and assesses the potential of technology applications, ways of doing business and training approaches to mitigate those operational gaps. This requires close coordination with a wide variety of individuals and organizations that include scientists, engineers, requirements specialists, technicians, Educational and training specialists, business and academia. To facilitate this process I often produced vignettes to support development, as well as planning and conducting surveys, experiments and other events that develop Service Member Touch points that inform the requirements development process. While I worked across organizational lines, I was seated within the U.S. Army Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear School Headquarters. A technical LNO cell was formed there. This cell promotes the integration of technologies leveraging emerging CBRN Science & Technology(6.2/6.3-DTRA/JSTO and CBC ) as well as Programs of Record ( 6.4JPEO- CBD and Special Projects) as well as obscurant, non lethal and novel effects technologies. The CBC LNO also represents fielded equipment, stockpile surveillance, technical studies and rapid prototyping/ Additive Manufacturing and Agile development initiatives withing the CBC portfolio.
