• Conceived of and drafted legislation to create a process to identify and rename offensively named landmarks and public lands, igniting a campaign which culminated in a 2021 Secretarial Order to begin evaluating and renaming offensively named places.• Created a database of Tribal leaders and Indigenous organizations to guide the organization’s outreach efforts.• Analyzed data from the U.S. Board on Geographic Names to quantify the number of potentially offensive names for landmarks.• Created Esri StoryMaps showing the location of potentially offensively named landmarks.• Drafted legislation and factsheets to rename Woolsey Peak Wilderness and Mount Evans Wilderness, two egregious examples of public lands named for individuals who led massacres against Native Americans.• Provided feedback and edits to support draft legislation to enhance tribes’ ability to influence management of cultural landscapes and sacred sites on public lands.
