CurrentThrough a lense of local capacity building and policy advocacy, I collaborate with the local leaders and the community of South Central Los Angeles to address the effects of degrading environmental conditions on the health and safety of Watts residents. On behalf of the Luskin School of Public Affairs at UCLA, and under the direction of the Better Watts Initiative, the environmental justice arm of the Watts Labor Community Action Committee, I co-lead a scientific research study to assess the presence of lead in the tap water of South-Central Los Angeles residential units.• Lead logistics of residential drinking water sampling project in Watts, California and managed data for post-data collection and metal contaminant research. From May to August 2023, collected over 600 drinking water samples, one per residential unit• Organize and lead door-knocking with 4 water sampling groups with sample collectors and security guards• Manage budget of over $40,000 to implement research, and compensated 40+ members of sampling team• Organize high-impact meetings with community leaders and executives of the Los Angeles Department for Water and Power
