Materials and process research within biotechnology for ophthalmic applications.

During each 10 week semester, I work with several students to develop research skills in an area of our overlapping academic interests.

Working alongside an international team of experts in ophthalmology of lenses and physics of 3D printers to develop technology to 3D print prescription lenses, revolutionizing the lens industry.

•Contributes mechanical expertise on conservation science projects in the Materials Characterization Group •Researches in collaboration with Walt Disney Animation Research Library to preserve animation cels: trilaminate, heterogeneous materials. •Performs lab analyses, improves existing protocols, and determines chemical, mechanical, or physical instrumental tools required for research and development. •Writes quarterly reports, which include statistical data interpretation and next steps. •Engages in small group evaluations, and disseminates results through international poster presentations, lectures, and peer-reviewed research publications. •Mentored and assistant supervised masters-level student for five months in 2019. •Toolkit developed for the analysis of animation cels•Developed novel nanoscale protocol for interpreting paint adhesion interactions within a variety of environmental conditions.

•Joined team collaboration with Disney Animated Research Library (ARL) preservation project on behalf of Getty Conservation Institute (GCI). •Compiled and digested a literature database of historical, chemical, mechanical, physical, and environmental publications related to animation cels and their materials- cellulose acetate, Walt Disney Studios unique paints based on a gum Arabic binder, and xeroxed inks. •Performed initial experimental testing to evaluate which analytical testing best served the conservation problems. •Designed searchable database and completed data entry of archival documents to utilize for stream-lined experimental design. •Worked with team to develop method on SEC/ GPC to study the molecularly degraded cellulose acetate, which was included in a peer-reviewed publication published in 2018.

• Awarded the Graduate Board's Diversity Fellowship• Assigned lead research assistant in Professor Elizabeth Harbron's photochemistry research group to detect metals in aqueous solutions at ppb levels with spectrophotometry & UV-VIS through the synthesis of rhodamine-B dye nano-particles. • Performed tasks associated with the role of teaching assistant for undergraduate chemistry courses.• Funded by student grants each semester, masters thesis project studied the thin-film polymer influence on rhodamine-B dye decay induced through photo-oxidation, tracking films with UV-VIS and spectrometers. • Disseminated a poster presentation at the Graduate Research Symposium hosted by W&M in 2014.

• Performed beginner level scientific instrumentation and data analysis on a variety of projects including 1. Supervised by Rebecca Ploeger to assist bibliographic research and chemical analysis (FTIR) of the consolidating and relining adhesive Beva-371.2. Worked with Ana Alba and Rebecca Ploeger both chemically to formulate and to induce mechanical instabilities to drive paint cracking on which later to test the adhesive, which led to a poster presentation at CESMAR 17 conference in Italy in 2012. 3. Supervised by John Delaney and Kate Dooley processing data in Origin software for binder analysis with FORS. 4. Made paint drawdowns following artist recipes for gesso layers, paint binders, and pigments for the rest of the team to measure, evaluate, and then use to create a material database of multispectral properties

• Learned the technique of many conservation treatments on both frames and paintings, including retouching, varnish removal, varnish application. grinding pigments, packaging paintings for travel, and preserving painting labels. • Utilized conservation methods to treat frames from 19th-17th centuries and artworks by artists such as Wilhelm DeKooning and Jackson Pollock.

• Assisted once a week in the conservation studio, gaining introductory hand skills and theory. • Worked under head conservator Ulrich Birkmaier to collect and analyze IR reflectometry and xrays of paintings in order to support the museum's exhibition entitled "What Lies Beneath".
