In a recent presentation of my Next Act Retirement Planning for Your Next Stage of Life, one of the questions I was asked was “Why haven’t you retired?”While I was gathering my thoughts to offer something profound, I explained the importance of staying active and engaged, physically, mentally and socially, my thirst for continuous learning, and having a purpose and passion for the work that I do.And, I had great role models. My parents “unretired” to Florida in their early 50’s and completely “redesigned” their lives.When my Father retired as a NYC police officer, he opened our family restaurant, which had a successful 20+ year run, before we decided to make the move to Florida too. My Mother retired from a 20 year career as an Executive Secretary in Manhattan to work in the business.But, they weren’t done yet! They were re-energized!My Father created a Civic Organization and eventually, ran for City Council and Mayor. My Mother volunteered at Church and School, and helped Dad run his Campaigns and busy social calendars and events.It was only natural for me to follow in their footsteps -- too young to retire, and too active to do nothing productive, my husband and I opened our own business, volunteered at the Girls’ schools, hosted fundraisers and designed the next stage of life.Most of us, have redesigned our lives many times over, although we may not have realized it.We seamlessly, move into the next chapter, following where life directs us.For some of us, this transition is more challenging and daunting. Particularly, in this current climate, where life is moving so rapidly, and the rule books, that we thought we knew, have all changed.In a world where retirement isn't just about winding down but gearing up for a new chapter, my role is to guide clients through this journey, ensuring that they have the tools to embrace and savor this exciting new phase of life.,
