PhD Candidate - Building a Synthetic Cell (BaSyC) in the Industrial Microbiology group of the Department of Biotechnology, TU Delft. My PhD dissertation "Exploring the potential of yeast mitochondria for synthetic cell research" was successfully defended on Sept 22, 2023, and is available through the TU Delft repository.

The prize-winning TU Delft iGEM team 2016 (awarded with Best New Application, Best Model and Best New Composite Part awards) developed "Opticoli", engineered bacteria that can function as a biological lens for multiple application. Personally responsible for building a custom microscope, graphic design and biological safety, involved in lab work, modeling and human practices.

Internship at the Industrial Microbiology section of the department of Biotechnology at Delft University of Technology. The internship involved growth characterization in shake flask cultures and transcriptome analysis of engineered yeast strains, using a variety of analytical techniques.

Providing workshops at high schools throughout the Netherlands in order to teach the high school students about engineering micro-organisms and their applications in biotechnology. The students make their own bio-ethanol using toilet paper and yeast. The students were encouraged to identify further engineering targets for production of bio-ethanol and the environmental and societal impact of white biotechnology is thoroughly discussed.
