I focus on patent litigation in U.S. district courts and appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. I use my chemical engineering background to help clients in the areas of energy, renewables, pharmaceuticals (small molecule and biologics), biotechnology, and chemical products. I have assisted numerous innovator pharmaceutical clients in Hatch-Waxman and BPCIA litigation.I have worked on more than 30 Federal Circuit appeals across a wide range of technologies—from polymers, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology to medical devices, AI-driven drug discovery, and computer software. I have handled district court litigations at every stage, from pre-lit counseling through trial. I particularly enjoy writing briefs and motions that clearly and persuasively communicate my clients' arguments to the court.I also have expertise in cases involving patent eligibility under 35 U.S.C. § 101, including in the areas of business method patents, genetics, computer technology, and medical methods. I was a member of the team representing petitioners before the U.S. Supreme Court in Bilski v. Kappos, I drafted amicus briefs for the Genetic Alliance in the Association for Molecular Pathology v. Myriad Genetics, Inc., and represented a client in an appeal from a litigation involving interactive toys.I am the Chair of Finnegan’s pro bono program and I dedicate time each year to pro bono work, including representing veterans seeking benefits before both the Federal Circuit and the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.Before law school, I completed graduate studies in engineering for sustainable development at the University of Cambridge and conducted research regarding the feasibility of biodiesel production using a novel reactor system in a community-scale project in South Africa.
