Emergency Medicine Physicians (EMP) was a privately owned and managed physician group by residency-trained emergency medicine physicians. As a self-insured healthcare provider, EMP had collected data, developed strategic plans, implemented processes, invested in technology, and produced new programs that deal with the challenges of keeping a population healthy at a lower cost and with better outcomes. Through this commitment to quality care, my role as the CMIO helped to facilitate many of these goals. These include developing business intelligence solutions (data analytics, dashboard development, and education), coding and billing workflows, telemedicine development, business applications and solutions, vendor selection, current and future state assessments, gap analysis, responses to RFPs, along with other informatics and quality projects. In addition, when working with our partner hospitals, I interfaced and worked with just about every single enterprise EMR vendor (EPIC, Cerner, McKesson, Meditech, Soarian, etc.). In this facet, I assist in optimizing clinical and technical workflows, Computerized Physician Order Entry, physician education and adoption, clinical transformation, quality improvement, Meaningful Use requirements/compliance, e-Prescribing, etc.
