I am a doctoral scientist skilled in data analytics and data science, with experience in both academic and industry settings. I completed my Ph.D. at Northwestern University's Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Exploration in Astrophysics (CIERA). My scientific research was rooted in the analysis of high-resolution spectra from both ground- and space-based observatories, primarily the Hubble Space Telescope. I was fortunate to have my work published in prestigious journals such as The Astrophysical Journal, as well as presented my research at large astronomy conferences such as the American Astronomical Society annual meetings. In addition to my scientific work, my research experience has led me to develop software skills related to the collection, reduction, and analysis of astronomical data. My projects often combined multiple disparate, heterogenous datasets, requiring me to write software to extract and homogenize the information relevant to my work.Outside of the research environment, I am passionate about engaging with the general public through scientific outreach initiatives. From organizing telescope observing sessions, to hosting Q&A sessions for K-12 classrooms, to giving informal talks in restaurants and bars around Chicago, I try to nurture people's interest and curiosity in the sciences.

Data ScientistActivecampaign Jul 2019 - Sep 2019Chicago, Il, Us• Performed analyses on customer usage data of marketing automation platform. Delivered new insights to internal teams on customer usage patterns.• Developed machine learning algorithms to categorize different use cases of the platform. Applied unsupervised clustering algorithms to determine general use cases, as well as supervised classification algorithms to map these clusters to user stories.• Developed machine learning model to predict and analyze customer churn. Transformed and optimized existing SQL queries to collect relevant data and engineered custom features based on this data. Developed a supervised classification model to predict future customer behavior. -
Graduate Research AssistantNorthwestern University Aug 2012 - Jul 2019Evanston, Il, Us• Performed research on the nature and behavior of the interstellar medium (ISM). This involved projects such as studying the time variation of spectral lines to understand the dynamics of the ISM, as well as performing targeted studies that aimed to characterize sites of potential star formation identified by other astronomical studies.• Worked with datasets from both ground- and space-based telescopes, though the majority of work was focused on ultraviolet spectral data from the Hubble Space Telescope.• Developed Python analysis codes for multiple purposes: - Bespoke data analysis and visualization codes using tools such as AstroPy, NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, and Matplotlib. - Spectral data reduction tools designed to emulate pre-existing, older software packages (such as IRAF). Example routines include co-adding multiple spectra, fitting high-order polynomials to spectral continuum, and outputting normalized spectral data for use in spectral line-fitting software. - Data management pipelines designed to collect data from multiple sources (both local files and online databases) and load into Pandas DataFrames for use in analyses.• Authored research grant proposals totaling $180,000 in awarded funding.• Won department-wide “Rapid Fire Research” presentation competition. -
Graduate Laboratory Teaching AssistantNorthwestern University Jan 2018 - Mar 2018Evanston, Il, UsServed as a laboratory teaching assistant for undergraduate introductory physics lab courses. Led weekly lab sessions, in which involved describing the physical motivation behind each week's experiment and helped students as they carried out the experiment. Graded weekly lab reports. -
Curriculum Design TeamNorthwestern University Aug 2015 - Jan 2018Evanston, Il, UsParticipated in the NSF-IUSE grant "Engaging Introductory Astronomy Students in Authentic Research through Citizen Science" as both a member of the Curriculum Design Team and as a teaching assistant. This grant was used to develop an online platform that could be integrated into existing introductory astronomy courses for non-science majors. This included a series of in-class activities, a research project, and software tools to ease the technical burden of dealing with large datasets. Personal responsibilities included assisting in development of curricula elements, implementation of the platform by working directly with the instructor of Northwestern’s Highlights of Astronomy course, and serving as a teaching assistant in that course, which entailed interacting with students to assist in their use of the platform, and explaining both technical and science elements of their research projects. -
Graduate Physics Teaching AssistantNorthwestern University Jun 2015 - Aug 2015Evanston, Il, UsServed as a teaching assistant for discussion sections in an undergraduate introductory physics course. Responsibilities included holding daily sessions to review lecture material and help students develop problem-solving skills. Also wrote, administered, and graded daily quizzes. -
Graduate Nsf Gk-12 FellowNorthwestern University Jul 2014 - Jun 2015Evanston, Il, UsParticipated in Northwestern's NSF-funded GK-12 program, "Reach For The Stars." This program paired me with a local science teacher to serve as a "resident scientist" in her high school physics classroom on a weekly basis for a full academic year. Personal responsibilities included developing lessons tying current astronomy research into a high school physics curriculum. This included coding interactive applets for students to use, lecturing, and creating related worksheets to serve as homework. -
Graduate Astronomy Teaching AssistantNorthwestern University Sep 2013 - Jun 2014Evanston, Il, UsServed as a teaching assistant for several undergraduate astronomy courses. Responsibilities included holding office hours, proctoring and grading quizzes and exam, and hosting observing sessions with students using the campus telescope.
