Reengineered the architecture, hierarchy, and compilation of BrainGrid, University of Washington Bothell's Biocomputing Lab's Neural Network Simulator.Applied the Singleton, Factory, and Chain-of-Responsibility design patterns to simplify accessing simulator objects and frequent high-level operations that were inherently intricate due to polymorphism and the tall hierarchy of the simulator.Reconfigured the compilation from Make to CMake which increases OS and hardware flexibility and supports practical frameworks.Integrated a testing framework and wrote unit tests for new and existing classes assuring functionality stays consistent while adding features and making improvements.Introduced a logging framework to check the status of simulation after runtime, making debugging clearer and customizable.
