My team's main focus is in creating, improving, and supporting our infrastructure self-service capabilities, as well as teaching other associates within the infrastructure org about software development best practices, GitHub, code reviews, etc. The need for automation is only going to grow, so I think it's important that we help develop these skill sets in others. Our main platform is a mix of open source and homegrown solutions and allows for self-service provisioning and reclamation of bare metal and virtual servers. Since we are providing self-service in an enterprise environment (not a cloud environment), our orchestration integrates with 3rd party enterprise applications to actually make changes to the infrastructure. This process performs the necessary technical pieces to go from bare metal to a network connected OS, but also performs the necessary business rules and requirements as well (change management, asset management, etc.).Our secondary platform deals with provisioning and configuring tenants in our Cisco ACI environments. It's also homegrown but uses Python bindings provided by Cisco to interact with the APIC. Since our ACI footprint is starting to grow, as mentioned earlier, we're working with a group of network engineers to teach them how using correct software development practices can be used to their advantage.We are a small team and we support what we develop, so we use cool software to help make our lives easier. We use JIRA, GitHub, ELK for log aggregation, Chef to manage certain aspects of our provisioning servers, and Jenkins to make sure our tests and builds don't fail when changes are made. To make deployments easier, we're currently running a pilot to prove that we can run our server provisioning platform in Docker containers on OpenStack. To make all of this happen, my main responsibilities include:● project management● maintaining client relationships● developing others● troubleshooting and Linux administration

After becoming the lead over the network monitoring and solutions team, I still mentored new and existing associates, provided justifications for new purchases, and helped manage and delegate work to the team. I was also asked to leave my current team and start a new team within the infrastructure group focused on automation. Since this was a new team, I recruited for my 4 open positions, created team specific policies and culture. This role has allowed me to continue mentoring associates, help change processes/procedures and work with multiple organizations within Cerner that I haven't interacted with before. Among others, we created a self-service physical and virtual server build and reclaim solution for our cloud group that has significantly reduced the amount of time it takes for them to provision and reclaim resources.

In addition to the same responsibilities as my previous role, I provided justification for new licensing and support purchases for monitoring and other networking solutions. I also mentored new associates on internal policies, solution architectures and troubleshooting best practices. I helped architect and implement an open source monitoring solution called OpenNMS, which allowed us to save significant dollars in licensing and support costs compared to our current monitoring solution.

Administered and improved network monitoring and network compliance tools. Implemented new monitoring requirements, system integrations, automations, and developed custom monitoring tools to fill gaps in enterprise tools. Monitoring included traditional LAN environments as well as optical WAN environments.Also implemented and supported HP Network Automation to store and version control network device configurations and run scripts against network devices to aid in automation.
