About Chad Burks

Chad likes to be on the ‘bleeding edge’ whether technology or pharmacy. Chad began his career at Walgreens in 2003. His first ‘bleeding edge’ pharmacy experience was in 2006 when he helped to start Westmoreland Pharmacy. His second came shortly thereafter when he went to Sullivan University as part of the inaugural class (2011). During his time at Sullivan, he not only completed his PharmD, but two master’s degrees as well, an MBA (Master of Business Administration) and MSMIT (Master of Science in Managing Information Technology). Westmoreland quickly grew from one store to three. Chad was instrumental starting each store and generated quite the patient following. He was even voted Independent Pharmacist of the Year by the Indiana Pharmacists Association in 2018. Another ‘bleeding edge’ opportunity for Chad was changing the business model from an on-demand fill model to a more scheduled approach synchronizing patients to specific days. With this new approach came more opportunity for MTM and other enhanced services. This provided Chad with yet another ‘bleeding edge.’ Chad and Westmoreland Pharmacy, along with several other partners, started the CPESN (Community Pharmacy Extended Service Network) of Indiana. Chad served as Lead Network Facilitator coordinating efforts statewide. CPESN of Indiana focuses on patients and provides enhanced services to improve healthcare outcomes and decrease total healthcare costs. Of course, 2020 had a different ‘bleeding edge’ with the COVID-19 pandemic. This created need for more accessible clinical services (including COVID-19 vaccinations). Chad was actively involved in developing Westmoreland Clinical Services to bring even more clinical services (including MTM, CCM, RPM, POCT) to the pharmacy space. In 2021, Chad founded PGxPharmD to provide another bleeding edge service. Pharmacogenomics combines a lot of technology with a lot of pharmacy, so it’s a natural fit! His job is to help patients get tested, interpret their results during a consultation, and work with both patients and their prescribers to adjust medications accordingly. Additionally, he can help prescribers implement this technology into their practice. Now in 2024 Chad joins the True Rx Health Strategists team as Director of Clinical Operations with a particular focus in starting and implementing pharmacogenomics programs.

  • Pgxpharmd
    Founder & Ceo
    Pgxpharmd Jul 2021 - Present
PGxPharmD is short for Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) and a scientific field called Pharmacogenomics (PGx). With a simple swab of the cheek or a small blood or saliva sample, we can see little parts of your DNA that are responsible for determining how you metabolize (or process) medications. Everyone processes medications differently; some slower, some faster. Sometimes people barely metabolize certain medications at all.Services are provided by your experienced Doctor of Pharmacy, not just a paper report. You’ll receive a comprehensive report designed with your health and goals in mind. Whether through a single meeting or multiple sessions, we always deliver the highest quality care. In addition, we work alongside your other healthcare professionals to achieve the best care possible. We use your DNA and our medication therapy management expertise to reduce side effects, eliminate medication trial and error, and decrease your overall risk. Our program uses pharmacogenomics, which are the genetics related to how your body will respond to a drug, and also predictive genetics, your genetic benefits and risks regarding diseases and health. We work with you in depth to better evaluate your individual needs, formulate a plan of health success, and equip you with the best reviewed information possible. Our program is custom tailored to fit you in a precise way. Our goal is to have you walk away from our appointment understanding what you can do now to improve your life and how to continue to grow towards a healthier you for the duration. Exercise, diet, genetics, and mental well-being are just some of the areas that have a tremendous, interconnected influence on your health, medications, and co-morbidities. We will be there to work with your existing healthcare team and to provide you with any desired further appointments or educational sessions.

  • Westmoreland Clinical Services
    Co-Founder & Vp
Westmoreland Clinical Services Feb 2021 - Feb 2024
Community-based pharmacy is evolving from a place of product distribution into a healthcare destination.Pharmacists who spend time filling prescriptions see their role shifting to be more focused on the patient, not the product. Attention will no longer be primarily dispensing, but providing convenient clinical care. Some forward-thinking pharmacies, like Westmoreland, are already enabling pharmacists to live in this world, helping patients manage their medication experience and documenting interventions. This is why we launched Westmoreland Clinical Services.Picture pharmacists having routine interactions with patients to review, optimize and synchronize medications rather than just episodic or transactional meetings at the counter. Pharmacists will collaborate with primary care practices as part of an integrated healthcare team, making recommendations on one shared medical record, reinforcing patient care plans. Patients who want care on demand go to their pharmacists for point-of-care testing, immunizations and travel consults, or prescriptions for contraception, smoking cessation and HIV prevention. Imagine pharmacogenomic screenings being commonplace, as pharmacists look at genetics to predict drug response and tailor treatments. So goes the perceived evolution of community-based pharmacists, from performing clinical interventions to becoming initial clinicians, ushering in a time when community pharmacies are considered essential to the healthcare landscape.
  • Westmoreland Pharmacy + Compounding

    Westmoreland Pharmacy + Compounding Jan 2006 - Feb 2024
    New Albany, Indiana, Us
As second in command of Westmoreland Pharmacy, I help to define the strategic vision for our 3-chain retail pharmacy, including planning for a potential new clinical services division. As VP of Westmoreland Pharmacy, I am the face of the company to the employees. I’m hands-on with the other pharmacy managers and technicians, which ‘keeps me in the trenches’ and connected to the business. This connection means I know what is happening in the business and can generate recommendations for changes necessary to maximize growth and profits. As Vice President, I have many varied responsibilities. My skill set has been built through years of education and experience. I have a total of 4 degrees, Bachelor of the Arts (BA), Master of Science in Managing Information Technology (MSMIT), Master of Business Administration (MBA), and Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD). I have spent a total of 17 years in the pharmacy and I have served as Westmoreland’s VP since 2006. In addition, I have managed a pharmacy full-time since 2011, including building 2 locations from the ground up. I am constantly monitoring competition to keep up to date with the overall economic landscape. This helps me to advance the company by seizing relevant opportunities. It is also part of my job to evaluate implemented programs and the whole company to improve and maximize successful programs and discontinue poor performing programs when necessary. Compliance with applicable regulations must also fall to me. Pharmacy has many rules and my job is to make sure not only my store in in compliance, but the company is compliant as well. Ultimately, business is business and we must maintain profitability. Therefore, profitability is in my purview as well.
