One of these was the startup of the relationship between EDS and Kraft where I performed the Chief Technologist function for the first 8 months of this large SAP outsourcing engagement. Another was working with the Department of Works and Pensions in the UK on architecting their re-compete structures.During 2007-2010, I owned the architecture capability of EDS and then during the HP purchase of EDS facilitated merging the Enterprise and Solution architects of HP and EDS, defining the training, certification and role requirements of almost 1000 architects across all of HP.I was also a member of the early Top Gun program addressing the relationship between EDS and Microsoft. This program was designed to generate the next generation of technologists and technical leaders for EDS.In 2005, I was the co-creator and the on-going coordinator of The Next Big Thing blog of EDS and then HP at: www.hp.com/go.tnbt. This blog was defined to project thought leadership into the marketplace on the implications of business and technical trends.Also during this time, I received a professional engineer license (software) in Texas.This period involved doing whatever was needed, changing roles on a monthly basis. -

Applications Delivery - GlobalElectronic Data Systems May 2003 - Jul 2004West Hartford, UsAs the Chief Technologist for applications delivery, I provided technical leadership to the software delivery team on process and organizational improvements globally (a 30,000 person organization). I coordinated the global lead technologist’s virtual communities across EDS allowing technologists to leverage the experience and insight quickly. This role also involve assisting EDS delivery teams through problem areas in specific account relationships, defining the processes and diagnostic approaches used to enable others to perform a similar function. Many times I was reporting directly to a CxO on what I was seeing, on a daily basis. I also owned EDS's Enterprise Architecture method - RightStep. During 7 months of this period, I was the acting vice-president of the Application Portfolio, defining and coordinating the creation of the offering playbook in the application development and maintenance space, while EDS was trying to move to a portfolio led approach to its marketplace. This enabled me to participate in the top 100 leadership meetings defining the future structures and processes of EDS. -

So I had to create and coordinated technical delivery structures and technical sales activities related to application development in the United States and Canada for EDS. I also acted as a liaison to EDS' CIO organization in addressing tool and process issues and requirements.One of the first things I did as the chief technologist was define the EDS Global Lead Tech Virtual Community, striving to increase collaboration and innovation by lead technologists across EDS. This community still existed when I left HP. I also defined an approach to software reuse and automation enabling others to benefit from the innovation and capabilities across the organization.Another activity I took on was to work with HP HR to re-defined the process for and led the Architect review board for EDS. This was an important element to having a growing relationship with our clients. -

This required the first instance of SAP BW to be deployed, creating an enterprise financial warehouse used by all EDS executives. I also worked with SAP on their initial efforts with the SAP Strategic Enterprise Management module, an early balanced scorecard based dashboard.As part of this period, I participated as a member of EDS' Enterprise System Management Review board and other governance functions as well as authoring content for EDS's Technology Policy. -
Chief Tech Healthcare SbuElectronic Data Systems Nov 1996 - Sep 1999West Hartford, UsEDS was structured based upon industries at this point and I was the Chief Technologist for the Healthcare SBU. Its focus was on commercial (including Blue Cross and Blue Shield) and US government healthcare (Medicare and the VA). I was responsible for defining, documenting and implementing the group's technology plan and implemented a technical review approach that assessed all projects greater than $250K to ensure consistent and cost effective delivery for the 2,500 person organization. I was also recognized as a Delivery Reengineering Officer focused on implementing structured change for the business and technical processes.During this time, helped define EDS's RightStep Enterprise Architecture methodology and used it to create a leverageable Healthcare payer value generation model. -

I also performed the role of Quality Assurance subject matter expert for the GM account as part of their software engineering performance network. Defining and implementing a Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Capability Maturity Model (CMM) compatible quality assurance tool that enabled the QA function to rotate around the organization rather than be performed by a dedicated team. Senior Knowledge EngineerElectronic Data Systems Nov 1990 - Nov 1994West Hartford, UsTechnologically this was a very exciting time. I was working in the Artificial Intelligence Services group as part of the architecture team of the Marine Spill Response Corporation project. This project involved approximately 60 developers evenly divided between Washington DC and Troy, MI. I was the overall coordinator for the Technology Design phase of the effort. This project was created by the US government as a direct response to the Exxon Valdez Oil spill by the US government. We implemented a unified emergency response management system that integrated two mainframe systems, a UNIX CAD system behind a Macintosh-based front end that require little to no training. This also involved creating a Geographic Information System and a hypertext based help environment virtually from scratch.I was also the project leader for the Knowledge Based Tool Design engineering project for GM. This project's goal was to use parameters embedded in computer design files of car parts within Unigraphics to facilitate rapid design of tooling, reducing GM time-to-market for new car designs. -

Manufacturing Development EngineerDelco Electronics (Once Part Of Gm Now Part Of Delphi) Nov 1980 - 1985When I started my career, I focused on the creation of statistical graphic display and analysis tools and data collection from factory floor semiconductor testing devices, performing the role of manufacturing development engineer until the EDS purchase by GM. I wrote dozens of statistical analysis solutions and created a multi-device capable, windowed graphic environment that enabled multiple programs to simultaneously display their graphic content on HP terminals back in 1982.Before this time, I worked at the Delco Electronics starting in the summer of 1979 and 1980 as a summer engineering student.
