🔸 Selection and introduction of up-to-date population data in a pre-existent database aiming at the creation of maps for the digital version of the Atlas of Belgium.🔸 Study of the impact of the environmental anisotropy in geographic profiling as part of a project called "Crime Mapping". This research aimed at assessing the bias introduced by the use of the Euclidean distance in the context of geographic profiling analyses. We proceeded to a comparison of road and Euclidean distances of about 1 000 pairs of origin-destination (crime sites – criminal’s anchor point) from the database of the Belgian Federal Police. Comparisons were differentiated by the density of road network (rural and urban areas) and the statistical parameters of the resulting distributions were exploited in the application of the most common geographic profiling model called the distance decay model. This research was published in the “International Journal of Geomatics and Spatial Analysis”.
