I have completed one week of work experience every year at Stanthorpe Vet Care since 2009 to gain experience in my chosen field. In 2013 I was fortunate enough to be offered part time work and I worked one day a week as a member of the nursing team. I am a qualified Veterinary Technician but have had to temporarily leave this job to relocate to Townsville to study Vet Science. I am competent in all aspects of Medical and Surgical nursing and have a keen interest in all aspects of mixed general practice and emergency. Along with the practical skills I have as a nurse and receptionist I am also:Competent at IN HOUSE LAB WORK: Running, interpreting and recording routine tests such as PCV/TP, BUN (AzoStix), USG and UrinalysisHave used Idexx machines such as Procyte, Catalyst, SediVue, Snap and UrinalysisDigital radiography including dental radiographyCompetent in the use of Smartflow, Ezyvet and some use of Rx works

This is my first position in Emergency and Critical Care and I am thoroughly enjoying it. Roles include triage and assisting the vets in initial stabilisation of critical patients, patient monitoring and treatments, assisting with procedures such as ultrasound and radiography and much more.

My role as a Residential Assistant taught me valuable skills in leadership and communication. I was responsible for the effective functioning of my floor and overseeing the pastoral care needs for the 11 other residents of that floor. Once a month I was responsible for locking up the college at night and being on call if a resident needed help.

I was responsible for producing and packaging apparatus used in one of the trials carried out by Professor Michael Kimlin and his team. I worked in a PC2 lab during this time and learnt invaluable laboratory skills.

I worked here from November 2011 to early February 2012 and from June-July in 2012. I was responsible for helping in the shed by sorting, cleaning, weighing and packaging produce to be sent out for sale. I worked with lettuce and spinach during this time in the washing and packing shed and also did a small amount of weeding out in the field.

I worked afternoons after school two to three days per week and assisted with cleaning/maintenance and general receptionist duties during this time. I made bookings, took phone calls, scanned and filed documents and had basic training in the use of the medical payment and computer system.

Before and after school work with some weekends and holidays. I was responsible for opening up the shop and setting it up for the day, filling orders, preparing food safely and hygienically, use of ovens for heating food, assisting the bakers in food production, stock rotation and handling, customer service and closing the shop up.

Providing leadership to the school wherever possible and acting as a representative at as many community events as possible.

Involved in running meetings and conferring with the local Lions club. Helped to organise, promote and carry out events to raise funds for our selected charities.

I was a part of the Young Delegate team which was a part of our local council. I was involved with attending meetings and planning events to promote the youth of our region. We were also responsible for promoting our region wherever possible.

Responsible for helping to organise school sport events and encourage participation in students in a variety of events. Also helped as a time keeper/ marker at inter school competitions.
