I started my career as a Peace Corps volunteer in Costa Rica as a teacher. After returning to the U.S., I pursued a master’s degree in Counseling. I worked in two community colleges, one on each coast, in a variety of roles - as a Counselor, Educational Planner, and Workforce Education Coordinator. I advised a very diverse student body, both culturally and economically, and a wide range of ages from 16 – 70. I was then recruited by the local high school where I helped develop and implement a college and career curriculum for grades 6 – 12. I have worked with hundreds of students, assisting them in creating viable educational and career plans.With more than 10 years of experience in a variety of educational settings, I am passionate about working with teens and adults to help them make informed decisions about their future. I am committed to being a resourceful counselor by providing support in academic, career and life planning. I have an excellent understanding of the college search, admissions, and financial aid process for students to pursue the best fit for their post-secondary education whether it’s technical college, community college or a four-year college. I get the greatest satisfaction from helping others discover their future pathway. This takes time, research, and sometimes encouraging them to go beyond their comfort zone. The final decision needs to come from the student, I provide resources and guidance. In addition to paid work, I have volunteered by using my counseling skills with a non-profit that mentors low-income high school girls and at a hospital working with patients to change behaviors that will improve their health. All of my work, both paid and volunteer, is focused on helping to improve lives of others.
