I currently run Commoncog. Commoncog asks two questions: a) what is business expertise? b) what do we know about accelerating it?Previously I ran content marketing for Holistics and doubled their ARR over the course of 2021.Before that I ran the Vietnam side of Floating Cube Studios, a Singaporean company with offices in Singapore and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. I was there from 2014-2017, and oversaw our pivot from consulting to products (see: epos.com) I helped bootstrap the company to 4.5M in annual revenue, and then trained my replacements before leaving. In the past, I worked pretty heavily in digital publishing. I launched Novelr.com in 2006 and co-founded a publishing startup, Pandamian, in 2010. I helped create Web Fiction Guide in 2008. (Some of my thoughts on the space and previous work may be found in this talk I gave at the Internet Archive in 2011: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfsLORO7OAU )Whilst at NUS, I was president of the NUS Hackers, a student interest group dedicated to growing the (then) non-existent hacker community on campus. I was responsible for the club's org design, created its structure, and started many of the club's activities, including Singapore's largest student hackathon. NUS Hackers is now an integral part of the School of Computing's culture - a good portion of large company recruiting go through our members.

In 2021, doubled Holistics's ARR (a 7-figure amount) by repositioning the company. The project took 4 months, and then resulted in a doubling of ARR over the next 8 months with no additional marketing spend. The repositioning including a new sales narrative as part of the inbound sales process, rewritten copy across the entire companyβs website, and a.

Helped create the club. Started Friday Hacks and Hack&Roll. Did most of the org design, and grew Hackers to become a dominant force in the School of Computing. The hiring and succession processes my team designed have helped NUS Hackers become an important asset in Singapore's tech ecosystem. Was probably the highlight of my uni life.
Created Novelr.com, an idea blog and community rally point for Internet fiction. Novelr provides commentary on the evolving digital publishing sphere. Articles from Novelr have been quoted by Business Insider, The Guardian and TechMeme. A number of Novelr's best ideas were incorporated into Pandamian, my first startup.

Helped build Viki's platform: was part of the team that rewrote the API (V3), wrote nearly all of Viki's V3 API documentation, created the V3 API consumer gem and worked on their deployable partner site project. Also started a side-project to introduce A/B testing on Viki.com's primary site.
I co-founded Pandamian in 2010, and worked on it as a designer and developer.Pandamian's premise was that current ebook production workflows were really bad, and writers would be better served with a web-based tool for producing their ebooks. This turned out to be the wrong problem to solve. We've since shut down the company.
