I currently run Commoncog. Commoncog asks two questions: a) what is business expertise? b) what do we know about accelerating it?Previously I ran content marketing for Holistics and doubled their ARR over the course of 2021.Before that I ran the Vietnam side of Floating Cube Studios, a Singaporean company with offices in Singapore and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. I was there from 2014-2017, and oversaw our pivot from consulting to products (see: epos.com) I helped bootstrap the company to 4.5M in annual revenue, and then trained my replacements before leaving.In the past, I worked pretty heavily in digital publishing. I launched Novelr.com in 2006 and co-founded a publishing startup, Pandamian, in 2010. I helped create Web Fiction Guide in 2008. (Some of my thoughts on the space and previous work may be found in this talk I gave at the Internet Archive in 2011: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfsLORO7OAU )Whilst at NUS, I was president of the NUS Hackers, a student interest group dedicated to growing the (then) non-existent hacker community on campus. I was responsible for the club's org design, created its structure, and started many of the club's activities, including Singapore's largest student hackathon. NUS Hackers is now an integral part of the School of Computing's culture - a good portion of large company recruiting go through our members.

Content MarketingHolistics Software Apr 2019 - Oct 2021SingaporeIn 2021, doubled Holistics's ARR (a 7-figure amount) by repositioning the company.The project took 4 months, and then resulted in a doubling of ARR over the next 8 months with no additional marketing spend. The repositioning including a new sales narrative as part of the inbound sales process, rewritten copy across the entire company’s website, and a change in direction for company marketing. In 2020, proposed and wrote the majority of The Analytics Setup Guidebook, the most comprehensive guide to the contemporary data analytics landscape at the time, and a great world-of-mouth lead magnet.Also wrote most of Holistics's blog posts and newsletters during this period.Hired two marketers to replace me before leaving, after the successful completion of the repositioning project.For more information about the repositioning, see the links below. -

Helped bootstrap the company to low single-digit millions as the founder's 'right hand man'.I ran the Vietnam office. I managed the server team, introduced code review, started one-on-ones and management training, created our hiring policies, came up with our hiring strategy, dealt with company administration, managed the growth of our employees and grew the team to 15 people. I also managed the development of our entire product suite. I commuted between Singapore and Vietnam for three years, and built individual products that brought in six-figures in annual revenue by the end of my tenure. The company grew to seven figures of revenue in my time there; I hired my replacements, trained them, and left after three years of execution.
