Cedric Smith is the Director, Transportation at Pollution Probe, in which capacity he leads the team's research, stakeholder engagement and communications in areas including light-duty electric vehicles, medium- and heavy- duty electric vehicles, electric vehicle charging and rail decarbonization. Cedric represents Pollution Probe in fora including the CSA Group's Organizational Management & Sustainability Strategic Steering Committee (OM&S SSC), the Canadian Electric School Bus Alliance (CESBA) steering committee and the Federal Zero Emission Vehicle Council Affordability and Charging and Refueling Working Groups, among others. Prior to Pollution Probe, Cedric worked as a Program Manager with the Pembina Institute, leading the organization's work in just transition, sustainable finance and electric vehicle manufacturing.Over the course of his career, Cedric has led or supervised successful fundraising proposals worth over a cumulative $1.5 million. He has co-authored or supervised over 20 publications, primarily in clean transportation, but also covering topics including just transition, sustainable finance, skills, buildings, clean electricity and oil & gas. Cedric has a track record of success in government relations, having influenced policy at the federal and provincial levels - in areas including the 2030 Emissions Reduction Plan, the Ontario government's Driving Prosperity Automotive Plan and the 2023 Federal Fall Economic Statement. Cedric's government relations efforts have included engagements with high-level bureaucrats and elected officials, including the Minister of Transportation. In 2020, Cedric presented and testified to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development.Cedric is a sought-after thought leader on clean transportation, having appeared in outlets including the Globe & Mail, the Financial Post and Electric Autonomy.
