As Outside Plant Construction Manager, oversaw the fiber optic (FiOS) build within my geographic area of responsibility spanning 250 square miles and consisting of 12 municipalities. Held status update meetings with municipalities for the fiber project underway and ensured that traffic control and construction set-ups followed OSHA and city requirements. Maintained tight project completion timelines. Also responsible for maintaining the copper network through contractor support and in-house technicians. Evaluated the performance of 5 direct reports. As Buried Service Wire Manager for the entire southern California Verizon company, oversaw contractors and 6 direct reports and their teams in the installation of the fiber optic service drop to meet customer due dates for FiOS service. Through my leadership, increased the region's service order commitments met through timely and consistent drop installs. As a commissioned officer in the US Army, held both line and staff positions providing tactical battlefield telecommunication support. As senior Signal Officer on the headquarters staff of a 3,600-member combat arms unit, built from the ground up, a communications equipment maintenance department supporting the commander and his staff. Resource for this add required travel and presentation to Department of the Army Force Management personnel to justify needed headcount and repair equipment. Once implemented, this change immediately halted the ridiculous constant and chaotic reshuffling of vehicle-mounted radio equipment during preparation for and throughout field training exercises. As Logistics Staff Officer of a 2,400-member signal brigade that supported the European-based 5th US Army Corps, devised a refueling operations plan to support the deployment of 500 vehicles and 500 tactical generators during field training exercises. In this same staff position, led the 2-year multi-million dollar equipment fielding project consisting of new state-of-the-art digital communications gear that replaced the old outdated analog-based equipment. Also provided oversight and expertise to subordinate organizations within the brigade for vehicle and communications equipment maintenance, food service, fuel, and arms room security. Evaluated the work performance of 7 direct reports. As commander over 160 soldiers and 7 direct reports, ensured that my organization was proficient in performing its wartime mission of setting up and establishing a tactical communications network for the command and control of combat arms unit on the battlefields. Served as signal platoon leader in charge of 65 technicians supporting the headquarters staff with 24-hour round-the-clock communications for an Improved Hawk Missile Battalion stationed in Europe.
