About Celeste Peh
As a Year 4 Chemistry and Biological Chemistry (CBC) undergraduate with a minor in Environmental Sustainability, I wish to leverage on the critical thinking, problem-solving skills and knowledge I have gained through my degree to fulfil my goal of entering the environmental science field in a research position in future. It has always been my passion to learn about the practical applications of science in solving environmental problems and contribute my own efforts to finding such solutions.To build my research experience and hone skills such as analytical thinking and communication, I joined NTU professor Dr Zhang Zhengyang's research group, Zhang Group, in the summer of 2021 (May - Jul 2021) to study how to improve the productivity of nanocatalysts for energy applications. Together with other undergraduate researchers in the Zhang Group and School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), I was able to determine the most efficient method and conditions for synthesising truncated concave (TCO) copper(I) oxide nanoparticles and also quantify their catalytic productivity using various scientific equipment and software such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Match3+.In addition to handling publicity work for the NTU SPMS Club, I am also active in school programmes like SPMS Ambassadors Programme (SAP) and SPMS Science Camp 2022 where I interact with prospective students, their parents and the public to help them learn more about my school and spark the students' interests in studying sciences at university-level.
