I am a public radio journalist, top TED speaker, and best-selling author. I created and, for four years, hosted the daily news/talk show "On Second Thought" at GPB, heard throughout Georgia and the four surrounding states. I'm also a very busy keynote speaker, talking to audiences between 50-9000 people all over the world. My TEDx talk on "10 Ways to Have a Better Conversation" has more than 22 million views. I speak about race, diversity, effective communication, and increasing productivity while avoiding burnout, along with difficult conversations and teamwork. I lead workshops and speak on all of these topics with companies like Google, Apple, United Airlines, Chobani, and ESPN. My most recent book is called "Do Nothing: How to Break Away from Overworking, Overdoing, and Underliving." My book, "We Need to Talk: How to Have Conversations That Matter" was released in 2017. My first book, "Heard Mentality: An A-Z Guide to Taking Your Podcast or Radio Show from Idea to Hit" was published in May of 2016. I have hosted a number of shows for National Public Radio, including 1A, Tell Me More, Talk of the Nation, Weekend Edition and Weekend All Things Considered. I also anchored presidential election coverage for PBS World in 2012 and co-hosted the PBS series, "Retro Report." Formerly, I was the host of WNYC/PRI's national morning news show, The Takeaway, along with John Hockenberry.
