Highly recognised domestically and internationally for being one of the world's largest international exchange programs, The JET program aims to improve foreign language education in Japan and promote grass-roots international exchange between Japan and other nations. The JET Programme has continued to grow, welcoming over 5,000 participants from 40 countries.Participants in the program selected for their adaptability and professionalism come from various native English-speaking countries and are given the opportunity to serve in government offices and public/private elementary, junior, and senior high schools. The program is conducted by local authorities and organizations in cooperation with the Japanese government and is co-sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA); the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science & Technology (MEXT); and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication (MIC).My placement includes one junior high school and two elementary schools.Responsibilities:- Collaborating with Japanese teachers to plan and conduct 20 classes per week for more than 1,000 students- Designing and implementing various lesson plans and activities while being aware of students’ learning abilities, interests, and areas that needed improvement-Coaching Junior High School students entering Prefecture-wide English speech contests. Several times a week I work with students on memorization techniques, presentation skills, and improving speed and pronunciation - Encouraging students to use and improve their English ability by engaging them in conversation inside and outside of class- Introducing students to American cultural aspects during lesson plans while also comparing/contrasting those to Japanese culture-Using Japanese language every day to effectively communicate with both Japanese teachers and students
