Research AssistantBrown University Sep 2022 - PresentUnited StatesAnalyzing O-16, O-18, C-12, and C-13 isotopes in speleothems (cave deposits) from Colombia and the Philippines to measure rainfall and vegetation patterns/changes in the past to help with current and future climate change studies. -
Student Math TutorBrown University Sep 2022 - May 2023United States- held weekly tutor sessions in calculus for two groups of five students- created weekly lesson plans- helped students prepare for upcoming tests and challenging concepts -
Nsf Soars ProtégéNsf Ncar - The National Center For Atmospheric Research May 2024 - Aug 2024Boulder, Colorado, United StatesUsing Python to run the Last Millennium Ensemble (LME) in the Pacific, specifically in the Hawaii and Tahiti regions, to study and understand climate conditions during the Polynesian migration to Hawaii 800-1000 years ago. Simulations of past wind patterns, precipitation, sea surface temperature, and ENSO index will be combined with traditional Polynesian navigation techniques to understand what the climate conditions were and how the Polynesians traversed over 2,600 miles of the open ocean without any modern technology. This project is part of the Rising Voices, Changing Coasts (RVCC) Hub at NCAR which works with indigenous communities to better understand how climate has changed throughout history and how it will impact various coastal communities to inform them on adaptation strategies. The NSF SOARS program is an 11-week program with UCAR|NCAR that allows undergraduates and graduates to work with NCAR staff on a research project. This program provides its protégés with a team of 5 mentors (research, writing, computational, community, peer) and Friday’s devoted to professional development in scientific communication and computational methods. The program ends with an oral presentation and poster symposium for all of the summer interns. -
Resnick Sustainability Institute Wave FellowCaltech Jun 2023 - Aug 2023Pasadena, California, United States- Developed a new method for isotope analysis of tree ring- Used Orbitrap mass spectrometry to measure position-specific carbon isotopes in tree rings to differentiate between environmental and physiological signals to yield improved paleoclimate records- Used bench work and preparatory chemistry to convert whole wood into gluconate for analysis via Orbitrap. This 10-week research experience required a submission of two interim reports, one research abstract, and a final paper and was finished with a final presentation sharing my summer work.
