I am Workf First Program Specialist and workedfor the last 10 years at The Department of Social and Health Services. My job includes interviewing people for eligibility, approval, denial or termination of public benefits such as food, cash, medical. Our clients comprise of people who are homeless, those with physical and mental disabilities, single parents and families needing temporary assistance. We provide access to rights, resources and opportunities to people who need help right away. In addition, I was volunteered by my Management in 2013 to become the Respect, Equity and Diversity Ambassador at Capitol Hill CSO in Seattle, Washington.I took on the challenge and I personally find it satisfying to be able create a positive impact that contributes towards the organization’s success.  After 10 years, we have taken DSHS to a higher level of employee engagement and have seen the difference. We have not only created a pleasant work atmosphere but we stayed focused on our mission, our value and our goal.  Employee engagement creates collaboration in making marked changes together and making our peers feel included and thus giving them opportunity to be heard, valued and respected. When my co-ambassadors and I give a presentation in our monthly All Staff Meetings, we are able to use this platform to remind our peers the importance of the CSD Rules of Engagement, our Triple Bottom Line and focus on One CSD Culture . We create an impact in people’s lives and focus on our community to improve and transform the lives of those who we serve.
